The value of social skills

while computers perform cognitive tasks of rapidly increasing complexity, simple human interaction has proven difficult to automate

Social skills, as economist David J. Deming observes in an NBER paper, are of critical importance in business. Moreover, he notes, “employment and wage growth has been strongest in jobs that require high levels of both cognitive skill and social skill.” Dare we add that cognitive and social skills embrace communication skills?
